The UNESCO-McGill Chair's main undergraduate training program is the Panama Field Study Semester. The educational goal of the Panama Field Study Semester can be summarized as follows: "We, as citizens of developed countries, view environmental "problems" of the world through our Western eyes. People from other countries will have a different assessment of important environmental issues. By bringing students into contact with other realities, we help our students build a new, broader vision of the world's environment”. The Panama Field Study Semester is offered every year in the winter term to 25–26 McGill and 5–6 Panamanian students. It provides a unique field-based, hands-on learning experience on environmental and developmental issues in a developing country.
